What is Reiki?

Reiki – a little bit of modern day magic

Reiki therapy could be the key to boosting your wellbeing.

So many people ask me the question ‘what is Reiki?’. The best answer I can give is that it’s a little bit of modern day magic.

Reiki is a holistic, hands-on energy treatment that originated in Japan. The word Reiki means universal life force energy in Japanese:

Rei – universal, spirit, wisdom or divine.

Ki – life force energy or power (qi/chi in China, prana in India)

Dr Mikao Usui discovered Reiki therapy in the early 20th Century. Reiki is gentle, non-invasive, hands-on technique. It never causes pain or harm and is not religious in nature.

It works along principles that every living thing has its own energy. But blockages can appear in that energy, caused by stress, injury, illness or emotional upheaval.

If left unchecked, those blockages can manifest as illness. Reiki helps release any blockages and restore the body’s natural energy flow.

A Reiki practitioner uses their hands to channel the Reiki energy to the receiver’s body. Anyone can channel Reiki energy (including children), but they must first be attuned by a Reiki Master.

Benefits of Reiki therapy

Promotes relaxation

Reiki therapy is incredibly relaxing. You may even fall asleep during a treatment – and that’s okay!

Reduces stress

A Reiki treatment will not rid your life of stress – but it will help you handle stressful situations far more calmly.

Balances the body

The Reiki energy helps promote the body’s natural healing process and re-balances any energy blockages in our body.

Releases emotional trauma

A Reiki therapy can  be quite emotional, as it helps release emotional traumas from the present and even the past.

Soothes and comforts

There is nothing better than a soothing therapy. I like to think of Reiki as a gorgeous, warm hug, because that’s how it can feel.

Relieves pain

Reiki can also provide relief from pain from current and historic injuries.

Distant Reiki

There are several different types of Reiki treatment: in-person or distant.

Distant Reiki is the ultimate socially distanced treatment. It can take place anywhere in the world and you don’t have to be in the same room, or even the same country, as me!

I send Reiki energy from afar to you, sometimes using a proxy.

It has the same benefits of an in-person session, with the added bonus of you being in the comfort of your own home. So you can relax and enjoy the session completely.

I contact you before and after the session to discuss. It’s the perfect treat – even during a pandemic.

** Only distant Reiki sessions are available at the moment due to the global pandemic **

FAQs

What does a Reiki therapy include?

A session includes a consultation at the start, to learn about you, a bit about your medical history and why you would like a treatment. During every Reiki treatment, I measure your energy level, assess your chakras and keep a record of any changes/fluctuations before and after the session.

Do you use crystals with Reiki?

Yes! I love to include tumble stone crystals in some treatments. The properties of different crystals can enhance the power of the Reiki, depending upon what you’d like to get out of the treatment. I don’t include them in every session, and always discuss first, If you’d like to incorporate them into the therapy.

Can anyone recieve a treatment?

Yes! Reiki never causes any harm and everyone can benefit from it, even if you’re taking medication or have a long-standing medical conditions. There are no contraindications to Reiki.

How does a Reiki treatment work?

In-person treatments take place in a treatment room. You get comfortable on the treatment bed (fully clothed) and relax, while I work a bit of Reiki magic. Soothing music will play and I’ll be quiet, as this time is for you. It’s that simple!

Distant Reiki treatments take place in the comfort of your own home. You can relax either in a chair or on your bed. I contact you just before the session to help you prepare. And I contact you again shortly after the session to see how you got on.

How should I prepare for a treatment?

There are a few simple steps that you can take to enhance your enjoyment of your Reiki session:

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing
  • Remove any jewellery or watches
  • Look forward to some relaxing ‘you’ time and be ready to relax!
